If you’ve started researching pet cremation, you may have come across two terms: individual cremation and communal cremation. Understanding the difference matters — especially when it comes to what happens to your pet’s ashes.

What is Communal Pet Cremation?

Communal cremation is when multiple pets are cremated together in the same chamber at the same time. Because the ashes of several animals are mixed together, individual ashes cannot be separated and are typically not returned to the family.

Some providers do return ashes after a communal cremation, but it’s important to understand that what you receive would be a mix of ashes from multiple animals — not exclusively your pet’s.

Communal cremation is generally offered at a lower price point, which makes it an option some families consider when cost is the primary concern.

What is Individual Pet Cremation?

Individual cremation means your pet is cremated alone — one at a time, in a dedicated session. No other animals are in the chamber during the process.

Because your pet is cremated individually, the ashes returned to you are exclusively theirs. You can keep them, scatter them somewhere meaningful, or place them in a memorial urn — knowing with complete certainty whose ashes they are.

Why the Difference Matters

For many families, their pet was not just an animal — they were a companion, a source of comfort, a member of the household. The idea of their ashes being mixed with those of unknown animals, however practical, doesn’t sit right.

We’ve spoken with families across Negros who told us that knowing their pet’s ashes were returned to them — and only them — was one of the most important parts of the process. It gave them a sense of closure that communal cremation simply couldn’t provide.

What Green Meadows Offers

At Green Meadows, we offer individual private cremation exclusively. We made this decision from the very beginning because we believe every pet deserves to be treated as the unique, beloved companion they were.

When you entrust your pet to us, here is what you can expect:

  • Your pet is cremated alone, never alongside other animals
  • The ashes returned to you are your pet’s and nobody else’s — guaranteed
  • Remains are carefully wrapped and placed in a biodegradable scatter urn
  • Our Send-off Hall is available for a short memorial before the service, at no extra charge

There is no communal option at Green Meadows — not because we haven’t been asked, but because we believe individual cremation is the only way to honour the bond you shared with your pet.
